THINGS TO DO IN MONTEREY
Your Active Coastal Escape
Our central location is the perfect starting point for exploring the Peninsula's active and healthy lifestyle. Whether you prefer a brisk walk or an all-day adventure, here are a few of our favorite ways to get your heart rate up while surrounded by natural beauty.
Walk or Bike the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail
This 18-mile, paved trail runs from Pacific Grove to Castroville and is the perfect way to see the coastline. Start just blocks from our hotel and head toward Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It's a flat, scenic route ideal for walking, jogging, or a leisurely bike ride.
Kayak or Paddleboard on the Bay
Get a unique, low-impact workout right on the water. Rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard from Fisherman's Wharf and explore the calm waters of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Paddle through the kelp forests and you'll likely be greeted by playful sea otters and sea lions.
Hike at Point Lobos State Natural Reserve
Often called "the crown jewel of the State Parks," Point Lobos is a short drive away and offers some of the most stunning coastal scenery in the world. Enjoy easy, well-maintained trails like the Cypress Grove Trail or the Sea Lion Point Trail for incredible views, whale watching (in season), and a refreshing dose of nature.
Explore the Trails at Garland Ranch
For a more traditional hiking experience, head to Garland Ranch Regional Park in Carmel Valley. With trails ranging from easy riverside strolls to strenuous climbs with panoramic views, it's a favorite for local hikers and a great way to explore the region's diverse landscape.
